In the second part of our article “The 5 most mythical watches of motor sports”, we will present 3 models that reflect perfectly the close tie that exists between watchmaking and car racing, from brands as prestigious as Rolex, Tag Heuer and Chopard.
Rolex Daytona is a watch series created in 1963 by the Rolex firm. The Rolex Daytona is part of the Oyster Professional collection within the Rolex range. Conceived as a Cosmograph, it is therefore as Daytona that this Rolex watch will enter the legend.
TAG HEUER CARRERA
At first, the Carrera Chronograph was designed in 1963 by the Swiss Jack Heuer (himself a huge amateur of racing cars and circuits) to answer the professional racing drivers specific needs. Then, its name comes from a mythical rally which goes through Mexico, the “Carrera Panamericana“, forbidden in 1955 after only five editions and many tragical accidents. Almost ten years later, thus, Jack Heuer decides to honor this competition, won by his friend Fangio in 1953. He chooses the sharp and musical tone of this word, pronounceable in all languages, as given name for its wrist watch.
CHOPARD MILLE MIGLIA
For 5 years, i.e. since 1988, the Chopard house is the faithful partner of the Mille Miglia race, but also the official timekeeper of the trial. This stability is the witness of the intimate bond that link up this family business to the car racing world.
