Another day, another entry into our SIHH top picks. Today we introduce a rather bold and extravagant piece that we couldn’t pass up, the new Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli Double Flying Tourbillon. As the name suggest, this one was done in partnership with the tire make Pirelli. The two came up with a singular looking, racing-inspired high-level watch.

A partnership with Pirelli for an exclusive Excalibur

Before we go any further, note that this piece is catered towards cars and racing fans, especially Formula One racing. Under the large 47 mm case, which will not suit everybody, hides a mechanism worthy of those in racing cars. Roger Dubuis displays their technical skills through the skeleton showing the RD105SQ hand-wound caliber and the two flying tourbillons at 5 and 7 o’clock. Also, the whole thing meets the requirements for the Geneva Seal.

Aesthetically the watch is highly skeletonized which makes for an interesting sight. As usual with Roger Dubuis everything that can be skeletonized will be, be it the typical star-shaped skeleton pointing to the hour symbols, the case, the flange letting the blue minute track through or even the hands.

An eccentric look inspired by racing

Many details of this Excalibur remind us of racing, the speedometer-looking sub-second registers surrounding the tourbillons, the power reserve inspired by car fuel gauges and the tire-looking bezel. The main color, a flashy blue that might be too much for some of you, is Pirelli’s official colour and the one used on Fromula One rain tires.

And if that wasn’t enough, the strap was made using rubber inlays from certified Pirelli winning motorsport tyres having competed in real races. A detail giving this watch a rugged character and making it even more exclusive. Is it enough to justify the 327.000 euros price tag ? We’ll let you decide. Know that this watch is limited to 8 pieces and most of them were sold when it was introduced. If you’re looking for a similar watch, you might enjoy the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Automatic Skeleton, its less expensive little brother limited to 88 pieces.
