Stars on the wrist

The brand Van Cleef & Arpels is not usually associated with the world of men’s watches. This does not mean that the Parisian-based “Maison” does not talk to men, but rather that the women’s offer from the brand tends to overshadow men’s creations.

With that said, Van Cleef & Arpels also produces high-end watches for men and this year, the brand dazzles us with one of the most exceptional creation we have seen for a long time: the Midnight Planetarium Poetic Complication timepiece. This astronomical watch is a beautiful piece dedicated to lovers of traditional timepiece complications.

The solar system in miniature

The Midnight Planetarium Poetic Complication watch is at first glance rather difficult to read for those who are not familiar with the history of watchmaking but it actually reveals a unique world of its kind.

This new timepiece reproduces the movement and position of six planets located around the sun. All planets positioned on the dial are driven by a very complex automatic movement and turn around a sun made with 18 carat pink gold. The planetarium mode which includes 396 pieces in total has been developed specifically with the help of the Dutch watchmaker Christiaan van der Klaauw.

The Van Cleef & Arpels watch has also a perpetual calendar on the back with indicators of day, night and year. As for the bracelet, it is of course made in alligator.

2014 is full of watch wonders and Van Cleef & Arpels knows how to surprise us with “interstellar” creations!
