HYT is proud to announce that Jean-Eric Vergne, the young racing driver who is currently competing at the FIA Formula E in London is its first ambassador.

« Youth. Hybrid mechanics. Future ». Three major values that the Neuchâtel-based watch start-up wants to promote through this partnership, affirms Vincent Perriard, CEO of HYT. Jean-Eric Vergne is currently the youngest driver in both Formula 1 and FIA Formula E and therefore one of the sport’s brightest hopes.
Vincent Perriard explained that it took only a few meetings with this young driver before he was adopted by the team. He is talented and  really ambitious, yet remains truly humble. Just like HYT, Jean-Eric Vergne (also known as « JEV ») has a passion for mechanics and, above all, for technical excellence. JEV has to excel on a daily basis, as does HYT in its desire to change the world of watchmaking with each of the collections it presents.
HYT is glad to support Jean-Eric Vergne on his latest FIA Formula E race which takes place on 27th and 28th June 2015 in London, but also during the 2015-2016 season, details of which will be announced during the coming weeks.

HYT in a few words

HYT’s Hydromechanical Watchmakers have managed to turne fantasy into reality : mixing mechanics and liquid within a wristwatch. While addicted to anti-conformism, these alchemists have drawn upon the strictest codes of fine watchmaking, and shattered them.

The principle

Two flexible reservoirs with a capillary attached at each end. In one, a coloured liquid; in the other, a transparent one. Keeping them apart is the repulsion force of the molecules in each fluid.

The hours are indicated by the coloured liquid released from a flexible reservoir compressed by a piston. These reservoirs, or bellows, are located at six o’clock and are made from an alloy. The first coloured liquid travels through the capillary and pushes the transparent one back into its own reservoir and then returning to its original position at six o’clock in what is referred to as a retrograde manner.

The two reservoirs are at 06:00. When the first compresses, the second expands, and the other way round, resulting in the movement of the liquid in the capillary. As the hours go by, the coloured liquid advances. The meniscus, is in the shape of a half cresent moon, and marks the separation point with the other fluid in the tube, indicating the time. At 18:00, the coloured liquid comes back to its original position, by going backwards.

The secret that gets the reservoirs going? Two bellows made of a highly resistant, flexible alloy, each driven by a piston. And this is where watchmaking comes in to activate the system.

HYT is continuing its all-encompassing quest for hybridisation by introducing its H2 in 2014, and the very new H3. This timepiece was born of a vision shared by the teams of HYT and Audemars Piguet Renaud & Papi overseen by Giulio Papi.

Jean-Eric Vergne in few words

Jean-Eric Vergne has steered his career from the beggining in the fast lane to success, having been Champion or Vice-Champion in every single category in which he competed before entering Formula One.
At 21 years old, Jean-Eric became the youngest ever French driver to compete in Formula One when he joined the Scuderia Toro Rosso in 2012, after which JEV also became the youngest French driver in history to earn Formula One points, when he finished 8th in his second ever F1 grand prix.

After three years with Toro Rosso, where he managed to win more points than any other Toro Rosso driver, Jean-Eric has been chosen by Scuderia Ferrari as their Development Driver.

JEV is also racing in the FIA Formula E World Championship, the brand new electric racing series, where he achieved pole position in his first ever race and has since got more pole positions than any other driver in the series.
