Band Aid already sung about it the children as our future in the song “We Are The World”. That same thing goes in a slightly different context for watch making. Girard-Perregaux realizes this all too well. It knows that to continue to make great watches like the ww.tc, Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges and the Opera-collection you need a mix of experienced master minds like Dominique Loiseau but also bright, young watchmakers to continue the crafts we all love so much!

To promote and celebrate this young talent Girard-Perregaux started the Young Watchmakers Tour. Last week they visited Christie’s in Paris, to show their skills to the public. Paris is still a special place for Girard-Perregaux because it was here, at the Universal Exhibition of 1889, that the Tourbillon with three Gold Bridges” was first introduced to the public. It’s probably not a surprise that this watch was also crowned with a gold medal!

The visit of the Young Watchmakers Tour also included a stunning exhibition of some fine Girard-Perregaux watches from the Girard-Perregaux museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds. This exhibition was housed in Christie’s magnificent building at the Avenue Matignon. The opening was performed by François-Henri Pinault, CEO of the PPR-group, which has a majority interest in the Sowind-group that owns Girard-Perregaux & JeanRichard. He did this together with Michele Sofisti, CEO of the Sowind Group.

They did not only show the skills of these young watchmakers, all who are tutored by Dominique Loiseau, but also gave an insight in their personalities and what they like to do in their spare-time. It might seem strange but according to Girard-Perregaux it is this combination of watch making inventiveness combined with personal creativity that will not only ensure the future of watch making, but also pushes its boundaries to where it never has gone before.

So the recently introduced Girard-Perregaux with concrete dial seems to be only a small tasting of what is in store for us in the near future. So you might want to budget your watch funds accordingly!
