The world of high-end Swiss watchmaking is a competitive one, where making a place for yourself is quite challenging, especially when talking about sports watches. But Girard-Perregaux intends to take on the two current luxury sports watches heavyweights, Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak and Patek’s Nautilus. The brand chose to expand its iconic Laureato collection, by adding new sizes.
The iconic Laureato now available in many sizes
The factory from the Chaux-de-Fonds managed to reintroduce this classic last year as a celebration for the brand’s 225th birthday. They brought back this 70’s icon in two limited editions and one size only, 41 mm. To kick off the new year and “to give the Laureato its rightful place”, Girard-Perregaux unveils a full collection featuring several sizes, much to our delight.
The Laureato collection expands and is now available in 4 different size, from 45 mm cases, to 42 mm, 38 mm and 34 mm. Our favorite one is the 38 mm which happens to be just the right size for those of us with slim wrists, instead of the slightly too large 41 mm model. Note that the rather unisex style of this piece might perfectly suit the ladies, should they want one. This new range provides fans with new possibilities and a nice alternative to the Nautilus and Royal Oaks of this world.
New references, classic style
While being a bit more modern, aesthetically the watch doesn’t change much and all of the classic details that made it famous remain, which is a good thing. The octogonal bezel, the “clou de Paris” dial (not that far from Audemars Piguet’s “Grande Tapisserie”), the stick hands and the date window at 3 o’clock are still there and look as sleek as ever.
The different references feature various in-house calibers and either automatic or quartz movements. There are plenty of combinations available between gold, steel or titanium cases with up to 34 models to choose from.
Available at Girard-Perregaux, for about CHF 9,800 for the 38 mm reference.
